Entry from: Boracay, Philippines
Entry Title: “Beautiful Boracay and Zestless ZestAir”

Entry:

“The white sand beach in Boracay is the number 7 of the top 10 Beaches of the world according to Yahoo. I think they are biased towards beaches in the states as three are outside of the states. From my beach experience, it was the best natural beach I have been to. Miles of soft white sand with the beauty of the turquoise ocean by its side. Truly breathtaking.
Traveling to Boracay from Manila is without a doubt an adventure. We flew out of Manila to Caticlan, then took a tricycle to the banka boat dock. We took the banka across the small stretch of sea to the Boracay dock. While on the boat it began to rain. When we docked at Boracay I was glad for the first time to see porters to help carry our luggage off the boat. The porters are everywhere, always willing to carry your bags…for a price. Then followed another tricycle ride, this time a wet one, to our hotel. Thankfully everything was in order there and we checked in easily. Kim and Sandy met us and showed us to our room which was classic and inviting, especially since I was half drenched.
After changing into something dryer we danced through the raindrops to Jony’s. They have great shakes and food. By the time we were done eating the skies had dried and we met a wonderful man named Rod. We made arrangements with him to tour around the island on his boat. He was a godsend for the rest of our trip. He helped us arrange other activities, find bolos for the boys in my family and took so much time out of his day to help us get the permit we needed to take the bolos back on the plane. He was truly fantastic!
We meandered down the beach and browsed through D*Mall. D*Mall is more of an open aired market, but with stores/shops on either side. There are many things to see and countless places to eat. There are vendors galore all calling to you: “Yes, Mum, souvenir” “Yes, Mum, pretty pearls”. Tongue in cheek, they are extremely attentive. ;)

Our first full day began with a lovely breakfast served beside our room. Then we headed out into the wild blue yonder to sail around the small island of Boracay. Our captain was Larry, with Marlin as First Mate. We passed Crocodile Island before stopping to snorkle. I saw Angel fish 5 inches tall and little Clown fish. We bought Buko juice, which is the juice that is inside the coconut. We stopped at Puka Beach, which is a lovely coarser sand beach before heading back. The rest of the day was spent lounging and sunning before stopping at one of the mulitude of restaurants for dinner. At around 4:30pm the restaurants unroll out onto the beach for an amazing evening ambiance. It is truly a wonderful way to eat.

The excitment of the second day consisted of quality beach time and a reef walk. You wore a diving helmet on your head and the oxygen was on the surface. The guide gave us food to feed the fish. They came a running when then smelled the food. We saw parrot fish and cute little black and white fish.

Our last day was spent enjoying the beach, parasailing and then following Rod all around as he was so kind as to help us get a permit to take the bolo knives back to Manila. It was quite the process and before we were done we had been to see the Mayor! Finally that was taken care of and off we went on a tricycle to catch the banka to catch the plane. All was well until they announced that all passengers on Zest air were being transfered to the Kalibo airport. The Kalibo airport is an hour and a halfish drive away! So we all boarded the bus and watched the rice fields and Karibao (cow) go by. Once there we rechecked our luggage and boarded the plane. We found out that we had be relocated because of the lack of floodlights on the runway for afer dark and the multiude of planes that were to board before us. So the moral of the story is book your flight before 4pm!”
