Bangkok Airways Airlines Airport

Why is there such a huge difference in the amount of tax and surcharges among the airlines?

For a return flight from Singapore to Seoul, Thai Airways charges 270 SGD for the tax and surcharges! Cathay Pacific, on the other hand, charges only 170 bucks for that. Why is there such a wide gap among different airlines? Is it because Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport is new and therefore its airport tax is exorbitant?

I’m not exactly sure how international taxes and surcharges are calculated but for flights within the US, the passenger taxes and surcharges vary between airports because they are used to help fund airport improvements and airport developments. The charges tend to be more for Airlines who based at airports that are ungoing major improvements and/or development like terminal improvements, remodeling, runway, taxiway improvements, etc.

Tribute to Bangkok Airways

An Airbus A319 of the Thai airline Bangkok Airways making a short field landing in Koh Samui Airport, Thailand. Samui Airport is a private airfield owned by Bangkok Airways and is unique in its style because there is no closed building on it. All airport infrastructure is located in open wooden huts, giving the airport its unique resort style and atmosphere. Filmed from the northern end of the runway near Buddha Beach.
