Geography
Lampang is located in the wide valley of the Wang River, surrounded by mountain ranges. In the district of Mae Mo Lignite found and mined in open pits. North of the province is the 1697 m high Doi Luang.

History
From the seventh century was part of the kingdom Lampang Haripunchai Mon Dvaravati period In the 11th century Khmer empire occupied the area Lampang, but it was the king of Mengrai Lannathai that incorporated full Haripunchai kingdom to his kingdom in 1292. Nakhon Lampang and Lampang or Lakhon was under the government of Burma after the fall United Lannathai sixteenth-eighteenth century the century. During the uprising against the Burmese government for the new kings of Siam in the late eighteenth century, a local leader of Lampang became an ally of Siam. The provincial seal shows a white cock at the entrance to the temple of Phra That Lampang Luang. According to local legend, the Buddha visited the province in his life. The god Indra concerned that people not stand up for themselves to show respect to Buddha, and therefore they become aroused by a white cock.
The provincial flower is the Heliconia (Heliconia sp.), And the provincial tree is the Indian Elm (Holoptelea integrifolia). According to legend, this tree was planted in the temple during the visit of the Buddha.

Sights
Kaeo Don Tao () – it used to be the place where the Emerald Buddha was once enshrined (the same statue already installed in Bangkok). Structures of interest are the large Chedi containing the hair of Buddha, a Burmese-style Mondop a Viharn old and a museum exhibiting ancient relics Lanna era.
To the west of town is Wat Si Rong Mueang the () – a Burmese temple built in 1905 during the time in Lampang was the commercial center and forestry. Large architectural works include the fact Viharn wood with several overlapping gables in the Burmese style.

At Chiang Saen-style bronze Buddha statue is also enshrined here, commonly known as "Phra Chao Chai" by locals.
Wat Phra That Mon Phaya Chae () – is situated on a hill and offers a clear view of Lampang. Its most outstanding feature is the staircase that leads to long chedi enshrining a holy relic.
Wat Phra That Sadet () – one of the main sites of Lampang, it is believed was built by Queen Chamthevi 500 years ago.
Kiu Lom Dam () is approximately 38 kilometers from the city.
Baan Sao Nak () is the teak house old Lanna style with 116 columns, more than 105 years.

Luang Wiang Lakhon Fair () takes place just before the annual Loi Krathong event around Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao and Wat Phra That Lampang Luang in Lampang own historical background and long-standing customs and traditions. A Khrua That procession is organized with the locals dressed in traditional costumes carrying the native home of several devices, some of which are very old.
Chang Khantok Fair () is organizing the first Friday and Saturday February period each year at the Elephant Conservation Center in Thailand. There is an elephant show and the pachyderms are feasted with fruits and popular vegetables are placed on the Tok, a traditional meal tray Lanna people.
