According to DistanceBetween.info: The total distance between Kota Kinabalu to Labuan is 118 KM (kilometers) and 999.73 meters. The mile based measurement distance is 73.9 miles.
However, Labuan happens to be an island. Thus, driving to it from Kota Kinabalu might prove more than a little tricky, mightn’t it?
According to SabahTravelGuide.com: …Labuan Island is also accessible by ferry from Kota Kinabalu city and from Menumbok town near Kuala Penyu and the Klias region. From Kota Kinabalu, there are two ferry departures to Labuan daily. The journey takes 3 hrs and costs around US$25 for a return trip.
And from HotelReservation.com:
Getting to Labuan
Lying just 8 km off the western coast of Borneo, one of the world’s largest islands, Pulau Labuan is one of the most accessible islands in the world today. It is well connected by air, sea, land and via the information highway.
Malaysian Airlines and Air Asia flies daily from Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Bandar Seri Begawan to this beautiful island. Kota Kinabalu in the Borneo state of Sabah also serves as an international gateway for Labuan with its regular flights everyday. Royal Brunei also flies direct to Labuan from Bandar Seri Begawan.
For those wishing a more leisurely and cheaper approach, high speed air conditioned ferries ply daily to Labuan from Kota Kinabalu, Sarawak and Brunei. Travelling time from Kota Kinabalu is about three hours and Brunei about one hour.
Another favourite alternative is to take the ferry from Menumbok, a small fishing town in Sabah which lies closest to Labuan.
The ferry here can accommodate trucks and passenger cars. This is the most economical and convenient “trade route” that connects Labuan and the Borneo hinterland.
That same information is available at LabuanTourism.com, but this latter site includes airline and ferry schedules.
Flightpedia gives the flight distance from Kota Kinabalu to Labuan as: 114 kilometers / 70 miles or 61 nautical miles.

My plan for the day was to catch a Bandar Seri Begawan city bus to a boat to the island of Labuan, then catch another boat to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia. I was following these instructions, more or less, in reverse. Easy, right? I didn’t set out to catch the express—it left obscenely …
